Documents to have on hand
Landlords commonly ask for an employment letter, recent pay stubs, a credit report and references from previous landlords. Self-employed applicants may be asked for additional income documents.
Know the rules
Most residential tenancies in Ontario use the provincial Standard Form of Lease. Rent deposits are generally limited to one month’s rent, applied to the last month of the tenancy, and a refundable key deposit may also be requested.
